This Trip in Short
Welcome to the beautiful island of Zakynthos, located in the Ionian sea, off the coast of the Peloponnese. With an area of 406 km², Zakynthos is the third-largest Ionian island, after Kefalonia and Corfu. The island is approximately 40 kilometers long and 20 kilometers wide, with a coastline of about 123 kilometers. The highest point on the island is Vrachionas, at 758 meters above sea level.
Day to Day Program
Day 1: Arrival
Arrival at Zakynthos airport.
Pick up from airport and transfer to a cozy small scale accommodation in Keri.

Day 2: The south of Zakynthos
A walk from Keri village to Keri Lake (± 9 km). Keri is the southernmost village of Zakynthos, situated in a beautiful, green area with many pine and olive trees. Keri is a charming authentic village. Some of the houses date from the period before the great earthquake of 1953. The village has been restored in a traditional way.
We walk to the lake of Keri to enjoy the view and relax in a local taverna.

Day 3: The Vassilikos peninsula
A hike from Dafni to Gerakas (± 7 km). Gerakas is located on the Vassilikos peninsula south of Zakynthos town.
Lunch at the end of the hike near the sea. Opportunity to swim there. On the way back by car we pass by Gerakas beach, one of the beaches of Zakynthos where Caretta-Caretta turtles come to lay their eggs.

Day 4: South-west coast and ceramics workshop
A short hike around Agios Sostis (± 3 km), and we also visit the interesting olive press museum in the area.
In Agios Sostis, we will have our ceramics workshop today with Andriani. She is an active ceramist and a skilful teacher, with extensive experience in the field. We will also have lunch in the area.

Day 5: Exploring Zakynthos town and free time
We will visit Zakynthos town today on our own. In Zakynthos town we will see some historical sights (churches, squares etc.), we can do some shopping and walk around. We meet for lunch in a local restaurant.
This day we also move from Keri to our accomodation in Alykanas, where we will stay the 2nd part of our trip. bus brings us there and moves us from Keri to Alykanas afterwards.
Alykanas, located in the bay of Alykes, is a pleasant seaside resort with beautiful sandy beaches on the east coast of the island, with a small harbour with fishing boats.

Day 6: The northeast area
We start from the hotel, for a nice walk in the area, around the village of Ano Gerakari, located on the mountain top. Above the village there is a church that is visible from all around. The view from the church is absolutely amazing: you can see the largest ridge of the island, the bay of Alykes and endless olive groves. Hike ± 7,5 km.
During the hike we will have a break to drink and eat something in a restaurant in the area.

Day 7: The northern coast and blue caves by boat
Hike in the area of Korithi (± 5 km) and a boat trip from there to the Blue Caves.
The Blue Caves of Zakynthos are a series of stunning sea caves located on the northern coast of the island. Renowned for their vibrant blue waters, the caves are formed in the region’s limestone cliffs and are accessible by boat.
The unique lighting and crystal-clear waters create a mesmerizing experience for visitors.

Day 8: The mountainous area and cooking workshop
Hike in the mountainous area, starting from one of the old villages, located at an altitude of 550 m. above sea level, close to the mountain Vrachionas, the highest point of Zakynthos (756 m).
From there we go down to a traditional tavern with a view to the plain area and to Agioi Pantes (± 8,5 km).
After the hike we will have a cooking workshop in the area.

Day 9: To the monastery in the mountains
Hike (ca 7,5 km) to the historic Monastery of Spiliotissa (Holy Virgin of the Cave), one of the oldest monasteries in Zakynthos. It is located in a small valley 3 km from Orthonies village. The monastery is still inhabited by a few nuns and it is very pleasant to wander around.
Afterwards we will go to the authentic taverna Botega where we can enjoy a delicious lunch with traditional Zakynthian dishes. Botega also has a small museum with products and traditional tools from the island.

Day 10: departure
We can plan this day according to your own wishes and depending of your flight departure.
For example, we can have a nice walk on the beach of Alykes bay and take a dip in the sea.
